As I was reading, I had a thought, perhaps from the same place that your "flat earth" question comes from: What if, as in the same way we humans can exist as Beings of Light in some other dimension (bear with me and allow the vocabulary, just to make a point), why might not the Earth be "an oblate spheroid" as Stegiel describes it below, in THIS dimension, and "flat" in another?
